Wen's Phoenix Corp., based in Taiwan since 1988, is a leading manufacturer of outdoor furniture and event tents. Folding Chairs passed 275lbs, 6" drop test, and 2200lbs dynamic compression tests as well as multi-impact tests were performed on PP plastic. It was known as the "Obama Chair" in the market. Beaufort Scale

The Beaufort Scale is a standardized system used to describe wind force according to wind speed and its observed effects on land. This page provides a complete Beaufort Force 0–17 reference with wind speeds in m/s and km/h. For outdoor tents, canopies, and temporary structures, wind speed is also an important factor when evaluating structural design, anchoring methods, site conditions, and safe use.

Wind speeds are based on standard observations at approximately 10 meters above ground level.

Important for outdoor tent users: Beaufort Force 8 and above represents strong wind conditions. Tent suitability cannot be determined by wind force alone; structure, tent size, sidewall configuration, anchoring method, ground conditions, and site exposure must also be considered.

What Does Wind Speed Mean for an Outdoor Tent?

Wind speed is only one part of evaluating outdoor tent safety. Two tents exposed to the same Beaufort wind force may perform very differently depending on their structural system, size, anchoring method, sidewall configuration, ground conditions, and site exposure.

Tent Structure
Frame dimensions, structural system, span, and tent type all affect wind resistance.
Anchoring Method
Ground stakes, expansion anchors, ballast, and other fixing methods must suit the installation site.
Sidewalls & Wind Exposure
Sidewalls, openings, orientation, and exposed area can change how wind loads act on a tent.
Site Conditions
Open fields, coastal areas, elevated sites, and surrounding buildings may experience different wind exposure.

How Much Wind Can a Tent Withstand?

A tent's wind resistance should not be determined solely by a Beaufort number.
